The Worldview of Philosopher and Founding Father – Thomas Jefferson!
The primary writer of our Declaration of Independence was also well-informed on the concepts of Holy Scripture. Jefferson wrote the following words for our new Nation called America in 1776: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Comment: The day for implementing this ‘right’ is now here! Let’s review this history for our logic and subjective evidence!
This philosophy is what gives us real ‘liberty’ and ‘freedom’ of conscience! Tyranny creates ‘enslavement’!
Jefferson was hostile towards the Christian Clergy (and Popedom)…those who attempt to confuse the masses with their absolute DOGMAS and their many uncertain doctrines. The moral principles of Yeshua, however, were fully accepted as Supreme! Jefferson seemed to view God as represented in the Old Testament (Exodus 20:3) – similar to that of Yeshua (Jesus) prior to his death!
Jefferson had a strong conception of a God as King of our Universe!
Comment: What a statement for all of us to contemplate as Americans. Our Creator (not Jesus) has given us our rights, freedoms, and destiny. Jefferson believed in the existence of a Supreme Being who was the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe and the ultimate ground of being, but this was not the triune deity of orthodox Christianity. Jefferson rejected the idea of the divinity of Jesus (called Yeshua in Aramaic), as he writes to William Short on October 31, 1819. Jefferson, however, was convinced that the fragmentary teachings of Jesus constituted the “outlines of a System of the most sublime morality which has ever fallen from the lips of man.” In correspondence, he sometimes expressed confidence that the whole country would be Unitarian (a believer in the one Creator) if the perversions of the clergy could be eliminated. Jefferson was anti-clergy for most of his life and this became evident in his private writings. Americans need to wake-up and start thinking as independent beings (with reason and logic) to discern the many corruptions now present within Evangelical Christianity and many similar religions (Islam, Judaism, Catholicism).
Contrarian points of view are part of the American tradition and ethic! Jefferson desired debate on all contentious issues of life! Man is unable to comprehend or interpret any so-called Absolutes (fully)! Man is limited and uncertain (real-time experience reveals man’s uncertainty, deceptions, and confusion)!
1823 April 11. (Jefferson to John Adams). “The truth is that the greatest enemies to the doctrines of Jesus are those calling themselves the expositors of them, who have perverted them for the structure of a system of fancy absolutely incomprehensible, and without any foundation in his genuine words. And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. But we may hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away all this artificial scaffolding, and restore to us the primitive and genuine doctrines of this the most venerated reformer of human errors.”
Comment: Our Founding Father of equality and freedom, Thomas Jefferson, did not believe in the ‘virgin birth’ concept as taught by Christian Theologians and Pastors. He viewed this mystical concept a fable and merely another clerical pronouncement which distorts the teachings of Jesus (Yeshua). Jefferson was a deeply spiritual person and wanted Americans to learn by thinking through the many confusing and misleading concepts presented by Clergy in their Christian churches and pulpits. Separation of religion from the State was a primary effort of Jefferson during his lifetime. He wanted Americans to think for themselves and grow in reason and logic. Jefferson’s entire life was devoted to freedom from dogmatic pronunciations of the clergy (who attempted to promote themselves as ‘Truth’ and spokespersons for God). Jefferson’s Gospel promotes ‘equality’ and ‘independence’ for each human person (not the absolutism of clergy and similar elites). Listen to our local church pastor for evidence of absolutism and ‘playing’ God via his/her interpretations of scripture! Try challenge this person in your church environment! What will happen? Will your challenge be allowed?
The Jefferson Bible promoted the life and morals of Jesus (the inspired words of this messenger of our Creator)! Jefferson viewed the Apostle Paul as the ‘first’ great corrupter of the message of Yeshua (Jesus)!
1821 February 27. (Jefferson to Timothy Pickering). “No one sees with greater pleasure than myself the progress of reason in it’s advances towards rational Christianity, when we shall have done away the incomprehensible jargon of the Trinitarian arithmetic, that three are one, and one is three; when we shall have knocked down the artificial scaffolding, reared to mask from view the simple structure of Jesus, when, in short, we shall have unlearned every thing which has been taught since his day (‘the corruptions of the Apostle Paul, et al‘), and got back to the pure and simple doctrines Jesus inculcated, we shall then be truly and worthily his disciples: and my opinion is that if nothing had ever been added to what flowed purely from his lips, the whole world would at this day have been Christian.”
Comment: It is obvious that Jefferson wanted Americans to understand that our Creator was ONE God and not part of some Trinity (as espoused by Evangelical Christian clergy). This also reveals that Jefferson viewed our Creator as a Being (much like the Israelites of old viewed Yahweh) and not a human being of flesh and blood as the rabbi Jesus (Yeshua in Aramaic). Why are these beliefs of Jefferson not up for debate in the American churches today? Could it be that the clergy CONTROL the Christian message via their group think theological educational structures? The logic of 1+1+1=1 is what our clergy desires to market to the sheep in the pews!
1803 April 21. (Jefferson to Benjamin Rush). “To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed, opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense in which he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines, in preference to all others; ascribing to himself every human excellence; and believing he never claimed any other.” 1813 May 31. (Jefferson to Richard Rush). “…the subject of religion, a subject on which I have ever been most scrupulously reserved. I have considered it as a matter between every man and his maker, in which no other, & far less the public, had a right to intermeddle.”
Comment: The corruptions of Christianity are many and few of the clergy desire that their control over the message of Jesus be exposed to open debate and scrutiny. Jefferson desired OPEN debate and counter debate on all issues of reality. His founding of the University of Virginia in 1819, just prior to his death in 1826, revealed his desire for every American to learn how to THINK and reason as independent agents. In 1802, then serving as President of the United States, Jefferson wrote to artist Charles Willson Peale that his concept of the new university would be “on the most extensive and liberal scale that our circumstances would call for and our faculties meet”. Virginia was already home to The College of William & Mary, but Jefferson lost confidence in his alma mater, partly because of its religious stances (dogmatism) and lack of courses in the sciences.
Our Creator God has NO IMAGE. Worshiping an ‘image’ (like the person Jesus) is a form of idolatry! Now is the time to deconstruct the corruptions within all religions! ONE CREATOR and ONE GOD for our planet is sound thinking IMO!
1814 September 26. (Jefferson to Miles King). “I must ever believe that religion is substantially good which produces an honest life, and we have been authorized by One whom you and I equally respect, to judge of the tree by its fruit. Our particular principles of religion are a subject of accountability to our God (the Creator…not Jesus) alone. I inquire after no man, and trouble none with mine; nor is it given to us in this life to know whether your or mine, our friends or our foes, are exactly the right.”“
Comment: This statement demonstrates that Jefferson disliked the exclusive (God playing) behavior of the clergy who tried to confuse the masses that they could interpret scripture absolutely by reading words within Scripture. We witness this exclusive mindset as we visit the many dogmatic Evangelical Churches in our country. We witness this mindset as we watch the many absolutist pastors and teachers on the internet and television. Any thinking person can discern that NONE of these absolutist preachers (called clergy) by Thomas Jefferson really KNOWS what they are enunciating (fully). This means that OPEN debate needs to be the means for disseminating important concepts of Scripture…not dogmatism! Why do the playing God pastors not comprehend this concept?
Fables means the Trinity (three persons playing God), the Virgin Birth (a theological presumption), the Deity of a Man called Yeshua (not supported by evidence), and a Resurrection of his body after three days in the grave (unreal to common sense)! The ‘glorification’ of the spirit of Yeshua (after death) could be real, however!
1816 January 9. (Jefferson to Charles Thomson). “I too have made a wee little book, from the same materials, which I call the Philosophy of Jesus. it is a paradigm of his doctrines, made by cutting the texts out of the book (Bible), and arranging them on the pages of a blank book, in a certain order of time or subject. A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen. It is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus, very different from the Platonists, who call me infidel, and themselves Christians and preachers of the gospel, while they draw all their characteristic dogmas from what it’s Author (Jesus or Yeshua) never said nor saw.
On the issue of ‘morals’ Jefferson and Franklin felt that the Sermon on the Mount was superior to any prior message! But on the issue of a Trinity, Divinity, Virgin Birth, etc. they had another view!
Comment: This statement by Jefferson demonstrates that T.J. viewed himself as a real Christian (not the infidel that so many dogmatic Christians of his day attempted to put upon him as a label). Jefferson viewed the doctrines of Jesus as simple and pure (the promotion of character, freedom, and justice among all people) and one who espoused a relationship with the Creator of our Universe whom Jesus called El, Eli, Abba, Elah, Yahweh, and Heavenly Father. Jesus (according to Jefferson) did not view himself as GOD or Deity. Jesus (totally contrary to the clergy enunciations of his day) viewed himself as inspired by a Greater Power whom he called God or Father. The mis-application of the role and view of Jesus started with the Apostle Paul and has continued to this day via all the Evangelical theologies and enunciations. None of these doctrines of our American churches are based on sound reason, logic, or history. The lack of OPEN debate within the church culture prevents most Americans from becoming a real Christian (unlike our most brilliant Founding Father), Thomas Jefferson.
America’s Founding Fathers (Jefferson, Washington, Adams, Franklin) did not view Yeshua (Jesus) as our God and/or Creator! America was founded upon the idea of one Nation under God (a spiritual Source without an image)! Think, NO IMAGE!!!
The belief that Yeshua died is sound thinking! Was his ‘spirit’ glorified after his bodily death (by the Creator God)? He, apparently, ‘gave’ up his spirit at the moment of physical death…and glorification could have occurred immediately thereafter?
This ‘image’ ( or similar) is what Evangelical Christianity is promoting as our God and Creator! The assumption is that Yeshua was ‘glorified’ after his death and then became an equal to the Creator God (part of a Trinity)! This T.J. rejects and so do I!
This is the imagery of Evangelical Christianity! Jesus arrives from outer Space and lands upon planet Earth! He, apparently, is currently residing in another dimension (within our Universe)!
Jesus (in physical body form) arrives on planet Earth (the Mount of Olives)! Similar to his prior ascension in 31 A.D.! This implies that he is currently residing within our material Universe someplace! This is one assumption of Evangelical Christianity!
The 2nd coming will be here! The Mount of Olives in Jerusalem is from where he ascended! Jesus lands on planet Earth and assumes rulership for one thousand years! This is what Evangelical Christianity espouses via their strongmen preachers! Is this reality? What do you think? Is it now time for some challenge to this premise?
Today, we have many churches, teachers, and pastors promoting a Kingdom of Jesus for this planet. This message is totally contrary to the REAL Jesus of history (IMO) and also to the Founding documents of America as presented in the Declaration of Independence. Our CREATOR is not Jesus, Yeshua, or the Messianic doctrines of our many churches as presented on TV, Radio, the Internet, and via the pulpits of this country (IMO). Reality, however, is hidden from the many by the elite clergy within our pulpits. These clergy do not seem to desire reality for our nation via OPEN and transparent debate within their pulpits. Jefferson noticed this character trait of the clergy (human nature) in his day and spoke against it. I notice this same character trait (human nature) today and I also will speak against it. Now is the time to open up the debate over all the spiritual issues of reality. Scripture is not meaningful when select elites CONTROL the message and the marketing of the message. Franklin, Washington, Adams, and Jefferson were strong believers in a Creator God over all humanity! This Creator God, however, was NOT the God of Evangelical Christianity! Many Americans are unaware of these views from our history!
